Member Under the Spotlight:

Dr. Wareef Kabbani

Dr. Wareef Kabbani is a shining star in the SAMS community. He was born in Aleppo, Syria, and received his education from Aleppo Medical School in 1994. Then, he completed his anatomical and clinical pathology residency at Wayne State University in 2000 and went on to do a fellowship in surgical oncological pathology at MD Anderson and cytopathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2001 and 2002, respectively.

He is currently the medical director of cytopathology at Methodist Health System in Dallas, TX. Wareef is actively involved in SAMS. He has been a member since 2011 and helped to establish the Texas Chapter of SAMS in 2012. He has served on the SAMS Board from 2021 to 2023 and is currently involved in multiple committees, including the Executive Relief Committee, the Lebanon Committee, SAMS Institute, the Research Committee, the Oncology and Pathology Committees, and the SAMS Data System Enhancement Committee. He co-chaired the SAMS International Committee in Vancouver in 2023 and helped educate pathology residents in Syria.

Wareef is married and has three children: two girls and a boy. His hobbies include playing the violin and the oud.
